The Geography of our Lake

Bird Lake is approximately 5 miles long and 1 mile at it's widest point. It is basically a widening of Bird River which is a fair sized river system flowing out of Ontario through a chain of lakes to the Winnipeg River. It is highly fertile and has a very good reproduction rate for fish.

Essential in maintaining a good quality of fishing, Walleye between 45 cm (17.7 in) & 70cm (28 in) must be released to insure that a good supply of breeding stock remains in the lake. There are substantial amounts of trophy Walleye, Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass in Bird during late May, June and fall which are premium fishing months.
